Certified Renewable Energy Site Assessors

The MREA is the only organization in the United States to offer certification programs for Renewable Energy Site Assessors. We offer Site Assessor certification for the following technologies: Photovoltaics, Wind, and Solar Domestic Hot Water systems. Each certification program involves classroom lectures, skills testing, and a written exam.

Upon completion of the program, a certified Site Assessor is able to provide a customer with:

  • A basic analysis of energy use at a site,
  • An evaluation of the renewable energy potential at a location
  • A recommendation for a renewable energy system that matches the energy needs with the site potential,
  • Information on the best place to locate a system, and
  • A general cost estimate for the system.
A site assessment is not a bid, nor does it provide system design, but it will help you determine what technologies may work for you.

The MREA currently has nearly 70 certified Site Assessors working in Wisconsin, Colorado, New Jersey, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan. Click here to download the current list of Renewable Energy Site Assessors.

Focus on Energy Incentives:

If you live in Wisconsin and purchase your electricity or gas from a utility that participates in the Focus on Energy program, you may be eligible for a 60% discount on the cost of a site assessment. The discount applies to site assessments for residential and small business renewable energy systems.

Getting the discount is as easy as 1,2,3.

  1. Determine if you are eligible for the discount by visiting www.focusonenergy.com and using the Eligibility Tool in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Download and complete the correct site assessment form:
    PV Site Assessment Request Form,
Solar Water Site Assessment Request Form,
Residential Wind Site Assessment Request Form.
  3. Return the Site Assessment Request form to the address indicated on the form. A Focus on Energy representative will then contact you to get your site assessment started.
